The G-Class, or G-Wagen, is the boxy off-roader that became a status symbol. Nothing else looks like it, and it rivals the Land Rover Defender and Range Rover while sitting in a class of its own for image. In Korea demand far outstrips supply, so used examples hold their value strongly. Buying from Korea can open up stock and colors that are hard to find elsewhere.
It still has real off-road hardware, with three locking differentials and a ladder frame, but the inside was fully modernized with S-Class screens and rich materials. On the road it feels tall and old-school in a way owners love. The G400d and G450d diesels are the sensible choice, while the AMG G63 with its big V8 is the one most people want.
